Sleep – Does it elude you?

woman-having-trouble-sleepingIt has been proven countless times in many trials that we need a good nights sleep to be prepared for the day ahead and to allow time for our bodies to rejuvenate.

What happens when we sleep?  In Chinese Medicine, when we sleep, this is the time when much work gets done.  Between the hours of 11 pm and 3 am it is the time of the Wood element.  The Gallbladder is busy making decisions while the Liver is busy forging a plan of action.  Visions and plans come from the right side of the brain while dreaming.  Unconsciously, this is the time our minds work through problems and come up with a solution.  To make clear and just decisions, we need to be asleep allowing our bodies time to rejuvenate and our unconscious mind time to lay out a plan of action.

From 3 am to 7 am, it is the time of Metal.  From 3-5 am it is Lung time, a time of spiritual inspiration, prayer, or meditation and traditionally the time Monks will rise to mediate and get spiritually attuned.  From 5-7 am, Colon time, it is the time for  letting go of the rubbish.  For many, this is the time when we clear out things to make room for the new day.  A good time to have a bowel movement!  Also a good time to forgive yourself or others.

If you get 7/8 hours of uninterrupted sleep a night, great!

If you suffer from insomnia, waking during the middle of the night unable to get back to sleep, waking in the middle of the night to urinate more than once on a regular basis, waking not feeling rested, or need to take prescription medication to be able to fall asleep, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can help!  We offer a natural way to balance the body to allow you to fall asleep and stay asleep!  It is important to get good sleep, deep sleep.  Many prescriptions medications will assist you to get to sleep, but will not let you get down to REM (rapid eye movement) sleep which is what is needed for the body to rejuvenate itself and for your mind to do its work.  If you have been on prescription medication for sleep for an extended period of time, you are essentially sleep deprived.  Why not try something new!  Something that can help with more than just sleep!  Let acupuncture and Chinese herbs assist your body, mind, and spirit to get back to health naturally!
